Understanding Space An Introduction to Astronautics Website Space Technology

51a Zyo4D9L. SL75 Understanding Space An Introduction to Astronautics Website Space Technology

Understanding Space provides an excellent in-depth explanation of astronautic principles making it a must-have for undergrad aerospace students.

This is an introductory text in astronautics designed for managers and young engineers new to the space field. The study of astronautics and space missions can appear difficult at times, but our goal is to bring space down to Earth and de-mystify it, so each reader understands the big picture with confidence. It contains historical background and a discussion of space missions, space environment, orbits, atmospheric entry, spacecraft design, spacecraft subsystems, and space operations. This is a truly user-friendly, full-color text focused on understanding concepts and practical applications but written in a down-to-earth, engaging manner that painlessly helps you understand complex topics. It is laid out with multi-color highlights for key terms and ideas, reinforced with detailed example problems, and supported by detailed section reviews summarizing key concepts, terms, and equations.

5 Stars A must-have for new professionals and students in the field
I own an earlier edition of this book, which I bought after a friend and Air Force Academy graduate let me borrow his. Unless you are already a guru in all things space-related, there is probably something useful in this book.

It is a primer for the basics of orbit and attitude dynamics, mission designs, subsystems, launch and reentries, operations, as well as other topics. The math is all kept at the algebra level, which keeps it from discouraging readers who want to get concepts without getting tangled up in dense math.

Unlike many texts, this one is very well-illustrated, and written in a manner that actually makes it fun to read, including sidebars with descriptions of historical and current real world missions, as well as descriptions and diagrams of various current and future technology subsystems, including propulsion schemes. Few textbooks have ever held my interest as well as this one, and inspired me to seek out more detailed texts for some of the subjects.

Many times have I had to teach young new people the ropes, or to explain to outsiders asking me questions about something they aren’t familiar with, and this book has always made it easier to explain things, especially with its ample illustrations.

If you are a professional in the field and have a stack of textbooks on the shelf by your desk, I recommend adding this one.

3 Stars Arcjet graphics missing.
I bought this book sometime ago based upon the high ratings on amazon and my personal desire to assimilate the knowledge.

I have therefore only leisurely read one of the chapters that interested me and although the content is top notch, I am quite annoyed at the placement of an incorrect graphic cutaway on page 576, The cutaway in question is supposed to show how an Arcjet engine operates, but the cutaway is that of a thermal nuclear engine that was discussed, and portrayed, some pages earlier.

So in closing, this text may need extensive editting.

5 Stars Very well written book on the subject
This book is really easy to read. The author has done a great job at presenting the history, the risks and the technologies that have allowed us to have missions in space. It provides a good understanding of issues that have to be resolved for a mission in space, such as near-zero gravity issues (problems such as outgassing), radiation (single event phenomena), heat transfer, etc. It also provides benefits of space missions, discusses different types of orbits, etc. Overall, this is a great book to give you a good understanding of space, space vehicles (i.e. satellites) and the issues encountered and the way we have or currently are addressing them as well as challenges for the future.

5 Stars A must read
this a great book….written in a very easy to understand for the non specialist..it’s worth the money you’ll pay.

4 Stars Very interesting
I found this book to be very enjoyable. A great review of Calculus and linear Algebra, are available in the appendix. This book has easily understood orbital concepts and is easy to follow. Anyone with and interest in Space technology should enjoy this book.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Kids love these!
I have never heard of Brain Quest, but decided to buy as stocking stuffers, thanks to Amazon’s suggestion and other user reviews. They are a real hit with the kids, who have a blast asking each other knowledge questions to test their skills!

5 Stars Smart fun…
Our boys love all the Brain Quest products. Parents will appreciate the design of this product – All question cards are attached at the bottom, so it is very easy to collect the cards and return them to the box. Anyone who has searched throughout a house or car for missing game pieces will understand the value of this “neat” game.

5 Stars Great for kids
My kids read this in car and during weekends, and learn so much. I have a collection of Brain Quest.

5 Stars Highly recommend…
I bought these for our oldest son who was starting 4th grade. He can’t get enough of them. The cards are also great for the car. We recently took a 4 hr. trip and the kids loved being quizzed. My husband and I also participate, because there are a few things you forget over the years! They really are a wonderful way for kids to learn in a fun way. I previously bought the 2nd grade ones and now also bought the kindergarten cards for our 2nd son. I will definately be buying each set through the years!

5 Stars Brain Quest – kids love it!
My kids love Brain Quest and we have used it for each of them from K through 4 so far. There are 1500 questions and answers. The questions are age appropriate and are challenging but are no so difficult as to discourage children. My son will pick up “the deck” (this book is really a stack of cardboard quiz card bound at one corner) and quiz himself for fun. What he didn’t know before he might now. I highly recommend this educational tool.

Lets Get Real or Lets Not Play Transforming the Buyer Seller Relationship

Lets Get Real or Lets Not Play Transforming the Buyer Seller Relationship

21vWNjYhjjL. SL75 Lets Get Real or Lets Not Play Transforming the Buyer Seller Relationship

The new way to transform a sales culture with clarity, authenticity, and emotional intelligence.

Too often, the sales process is all about fear.

Customers are afraid that they will be talked into making a mistake; salespeople dread being unable to close the deal and make their quotas. No one is happy.

Mahan Khalsa and Randy Illig offer a better way. Salespeople, they argue, do best when they focus 100 percent on helping clients succeed. When customers are successful, both buyer and seller win. When they aren

Struggle for Intimacy Adult Children of Alcoholics series

Struggle for Intimacy Adult Children of Alcoholics series

41q5RkFBvHL. SL75 Struggle for Intimacy Adult Children of Alcoholics series

The struggle for intimacy is part of a life-long process for those who have grown up with alcoholism or dysfunction in the home. To be intimate, to be close, to be vulnerable, contradicts all the survival skills learned by Children of Alcoholics.

This book is very well laid out and answers many qestions based both on past experiences and present. It also provide a excellent strategy to survive in a “real ” world.Great book for the person looking for insight into a “healthy relationship”

5 Stars this is my second-favorite Janet Woititz book! (read to find out my first!)
I love and recommend Janet’s “Adult children of Alcoholics” to my counseling clients…but I must say, I love this book too! And I love the John Bradshaw’s “Healing the shame that binds you” book.Healing the Shame that Binds You: Recovery Classics Edition (Recovery Classics) …… and the “Getting Them Sober, you CAN help” book by Toby Rice Drews (this book is a real lifesaver— my counseling clients tell me that Toby must have had a crystal ball in their living rooms! And that they read it and read it again, and sleep with it under their pillows, it helps so much.) Getting Them Sober: You Can Help! (Getting Them Sober)

4 Stars Good resource for a married ACOA client
When I am dealing with a married ACOA client, I follow giving as homework the basic ACOA text the author wrote with this volume to help him/her understand how their lack of intimacy skills may have thwarted their reaching the deeper level of attachment with the spouse that they desired. It has always proven helpful to my clients as they move into a healthier spousal relationship.

4 Stars Good starter book on intimacy issues
I didn’t grow up in the typical alcoholic household Janet constantly portrays in her books, so I didn’t have all of the ACOA myths as expected – which she stated you may not have all of them. I did see a few lines that I connected strongly with (the actual “Myths” did not ring true, but rather her detailed description fit better). For example, not knowing how to get angry or what is appropriate enough to get angry. I see this in my relationship, and it wasn’t until others who cared for me would say “Why are you putting up with that crap? I would never let that fly!” Alot of things seemed to roll of my back. It’s not because I’m easy going and forgiving (well maybe!), but I didn’t know when it was appropriate to be angry, or how, or what good getting angry would even do! The scenario about the security guard who turned off the lights and one person was angered and the other was not really hit home. Good starter book, you may not fit every myth, but it’s an informative read nevertheless. If anything I understand my own parents even better as they are ACOC too.

5 Stars Struggle for Intimacy
The book I have read over and over. I slip back into my old patterns very easily and this keeps me on track.

Brain Quest Grade 1

Brain Quest Grade 1

41KPB2216YL. SL75 Brain Quest Grade 1

When the Brain Quest series moves from preschool age to the first-grade set, it transforms from a playful question game into a sort of elementary school version of Trivial Pursuit. (In the spirit of this new grown-up air, there is no longer a cheerful animal guide appearing throughout the decks.) Now, each card features one question from each of five category sections: Reading, Math, Vocabulary, Social Studies & Science, and Grab Bag. The rules are gentle: Playing in teams, with partners, or solo, you can stick to your favorite subject category or play the whole card. Keeping score (they offer three different versions) is optional.

Though the framework of the game feels very grown-up, the questions are not out of a first grader’s league. A math question asks, “What coin is the same as 25 cents?” A sample science question reads, “Name the force that keeps you from floating in the air.” There is much good humor in these questions, and the name references are nicely up to date, though not completely contemporary (Beanie Baby references can be found here, but Pok
